Moving to Austria can require far more cash upfront than the monthly rent suggests. How much you should have set aside depends on where you're moving, whether you already have a job and which residence rules apply to you.

You also better factor in healthcare costs if you are not so healthy and need medications! Coming to Austria without a job means no access to healthcare coverage which can be fatal if you run out of meds. Try as I could, I was unable to get a straight answer for what the costs are for a person with no healthcare insurance like doctor's visits to get established into the system and then getting your medications filled. How much are blood pressure meds, insulin and other drugs when you do not have health insurance? Those are surprise bills.
