A direct service between Oslo and Malmö will be available in the summer, Norway’s state-owned rail firm Vy announced on Wednesday.

The train between Oslo and Malmö will be an extension of the existing service between the Norwegian capital and Gothenburg and will launch in July, Vy said in a press release.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers new travel options, and it is natural for us to use the strength we have from operating in both Norway and Sweden. We believe that this summer train will be popular, as it makes environmentally friendly travel to Europe easier,” Vy Tog’s Executive Director, Erik Røhne, said.

Tickets for the service will go on sale in mid-April and will be continued in future summers if it sells well, Vy said.

The new direct service would make connections to Copenhagen and Hamburg easier from Oslo, while those taking the train from Malmö would have access to direct trains to Bergen and Trondheim after they have arrived in the Norwegian capital.

There will be two daily departures between Oslo and Malmö from July 14th until August 11th.

Røhne said that the company would reveal more details about the return of the service between Oslo and Copenhagen later in the spring.
