Sweden’s Stefan Löfven voted back in as Prime Minister
In case you missed it, Social Democrat leader Stefan Löfven returned as head of the government yesterday after passing a parliamentary vote. He resigned following a no-confidence vote, but was given a second chance at forming a government after Moderate Party leader and de facto opposition leader Ulf Kristersson was first given the task but could not gather enough support.
On Friday, Löfven will announce the members of his new government, though no major changes are expected from the previous line-up. But despite being voted back in, Löfven doesn’t have an easy path ahead, with the next general election scheduled for September 2022. Before then, one of his most significant tasks will be passing this year’s autumn budget.

Police hunt shooters after gunshots fired into woman's apartment
No suspects had been arrested by Thursday morning after gunshots were fired into an elderly woman's apartment in the Limhamn area of Malmö shortly after midnight. Police told the TT news agency that they believe the shooters got the wrong apartment, but added that people with criminal connections live in an apartment nearby. "They may have been the target," said police spokesperson Andreas Hulting.
The woman was physically unharmed.

Two children believed murdered on railway tracks
An adult and two children died in a train collision south of Hässleholm in southern Sweden on Wednesday. A murder investigation is under way, with the two children listed as the plaintiffs. According to police there is a relationship between the children and the adult, but few details have been released. "We are not looking for an external perpetrator," police spokesperson Robert Loeffel told the TT news agency.
The trio were on the railway tracks when it happened at 10.50am, on a viaduct and not at a railway crossing, according to police. The train, which was travelling at 180 km/h, was unable to stop.
