Norway passes four million coronavirus vaccinations

Norway has now administered more than four million Covid-19 vaccines. Prime Minister Erna Solberg believes the milestone makes any large outbreaks of Covid-19 in the future unlikely.

“This means that basic protection in the Norwegian population is getting better and better every single day,” Solberg told broadcaster TV2

The four million jabs consist of a mix of first and second doses. So far, 2,456,978 of the shots administered have been of the first dose, and 1,541,186 inoculations have been the second dose.

Seven out of ten want outdoor non-smoking areas

The majority of Norwegians want a designated outdoor non-smoking area in cafes, bars and restaurants, according to a new survey commissioned by the Norwegian Cancer Society.

“People think it’s annoying to go out to dinner, and then someone sits at the next table and starts smoking,” Geir Vangnes from the Norwegian Cancer Society said to state broadcaster NRK

According to the Norwegian Directorate of Health, around nine percent of people in Norway smoke daily compared to 25 percent in 2004.

“We do not propose that smoking should be banned outdoors. We just want there to be designated areas where no smoking is allowed,” Vangnes outlined.

Two men find millions of kroner stashed in a cave

Two men who had gone out to look for a good camping spot for their families were left shocked when they discovered around two million kroner stashed in a cave in Mossemarka, Viken, South-East Norway.

Ole Bisseberg and his friend, who didn’t want to be named, were out on a hike near an old WW2 resistance depot to check whether the area would be suitable for a family trip when they stumbled upon their discovery.

“We were reasonably shocked. We did not say much and looked at each other in astonishment with our chins to the ground,” Bisseberg told newspaper VG.

The two friends discovered the stash behind a rock at the back of a cave. The money was tucked away in a sack and wrapped in four separate packages.

The two men took the money back with them and contacted the police, who are now trying to trace the money back to its origin.

76 new Covid-19 cases in Norway

On Sunday, 76 new cases of coronavirus infection were registered in Norway. This a drop of 112 on the seven-day average of 188.

Infection numbers tend to be lower on weekends as fewer tests are processed.

In Oslo, 13 cases were registered, 15 more than average for the previous seven days.

The R-number or reproduction rate in Norway is currently 0.7. This means that every ten people that are infected will, on average, only infect another seven people, indicating that the infection level is declining.
