July 22nd memorial won't be finished in time for 10th anniversary

A memorial to the victims of the July 22nd terror attacks, in which 77 people were killed, will not be completed in time for the tenth anniversary of the attacks.

The Utøyakaia site on Utøya island, where far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik killed 69 people, will not be officially opened this summer.

"It is true that the memorial site will not be finished for the tenth anniversary, and we are all sorry for that because it is something we have worked towards for several years," Hege Njaa Aschim, communications director for the governments building commissioner, Statsbygg told newspaper Aftenposten

The memorial site will consist of a staircase and 77 bronze three-meter-high columns, one for every person who died in the attack.

Police slapped the two women with the fines at a party in November last year; over 70,000 kroner of penalties were given out to the 15 people at the event.

West Norway police district has issued a total of 30 fines during the pandemic for breaking Covid protocols.

212 new covid cases in Norway

On Monday, 212 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Norway, 33 more than the seven-day average of 179.

There tends to be an uptick in cases at the beginning of the week as fewer infections are registered at weekends.

In Oslo, 52 new Covid infections were registered, double the amount compared to the day before and 18 more than the seven-day average.

The R-number or reproduction rate in Norway is currently 0.6. This means that every ten people that are infected will, on average, only infect another six people, indicating that the infection level is declining.
