More than 1 million people in Sweden fully vaccinated against Covid-19
Sweden has passed the milestone of one million people receiving two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine – almost a tenth of the country's population.
As of Tuesday, 4,320,615 vaccine doses have been administered in Sweden, based on what the regions have reported to the National Vaccination Register.
A total of 3,300,122 people have received at least one dose, which is equivalent to 40,3 percent of the adult population. 1,020,493 have received two doses (all vaccines currently approved for use in Sweden require two doses), equivalent to 12,5 percent.
Sweden is measuring vaccines by the proportion of the adult population because no vaccines are yet approved for use in children.
The vaccination rollout is being managed by Sweden's 21 regions, which are at different stages. Most, but not all, have begun the fourth and final phase of vaccination which includes adults aged 18-59 and not belonging to a Covid-19 risk group. But that does not mean vaccinations are open to everybody; within this phase, regions are rolling out the vaccine starting with the oldest people first.
At the moment, Sweden is aiming to have offered all adults at least a first dose of the vaccine by September. This is after delaying initial targets of fully vaccinating all adults by Midsummer (late June) after the country received far fewer deliveries than expected.
In total,1,047,143 people in Sweden are confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 14,301 have died.
