Whether or not you are a member of a risk group, you will need to register in order to get the coronavirus vaccine in Basel. Here's what you need to know.

The administration of the coronavirus vaccine is carried out at a cantonal level in Switzerland. 

This means that in the most cases you will need to register with your cantonal authorities to indicate you want to get the jab. 

Some people do not have to register, for instance those living in assisted care facilities or who have high-risk conditions.

How do I register for the coronavirus vaccine in Basel City?

Vaccinations in Basel City are being carried out in the cantonal vaccination centre, as well as in nursing homes and care facilities. 

As at May 2021, the general public in the canton is not being vaccinated. 

People over the age of 65 can register, as can those under 65 who have chronic conditions or who work in the medical sector. 

People with close contact to high-risk individuals are also eligible for the vaccine.

How do I register for the coronavirus vaccine in Basel Country?

In Basel Country, things are a little easier. 

As at May 4th, 2021, everyone in Basel Country over the age of 16 can register. 

Registration can be carried out at the following link in four different languages. 

Registration does not equal an immediate appointment. However, once you register, you will later be contacted by the cantonal authorities to book in an appointment. 

The canton warns that anyone contacting vaccination centres directly will not be allowed to make an appointment without having gone through the portal first. 

Can cross-border workers be vaccinated in Basel? 

Yes. The websites of both cantons clearly indicate that cross-border workers - a huge part of the Basel economy - can get vaccinated even if they live in another country. 

Cross-border workers can be vaccinated in Switzerland provided they have Swiss health care. More information is available at the following link.

The same priority rules for residents of the Basel cantons will apply for cross-border workers. 

What if I can't work out the vaccination portal? 

People who may be a little uncertain about the portal and technology in general can still get the vaccine but will need to register the old-fashioned way.

In Basel City, you can call 0800 555 655 or send your questions by email: [email protected]. Cantonal authorities however remind anyone wanting to call or email that they do not give out appointments by email or phone. 

In Basel Country, you can call 058 387 77 07 to pre-register.
