Health Minister Rudolf Anschober and Sports Minister Werner Kogler are set to meet with Austria’s amateur sporting organisations on Friday, reports Austria's Kurier newspaper.

The meeting will look at how the country’s amateur sporting organisations can take tentative steps towards playing again.

The participants hope to develop a ‘safety and hygiene plan’ which will allow amateur sport to again take place across the country.

One possible idea is to allow participants to again take part in sporting activities with evidence of a negative test.

A similar scheme has been in place since February 8th in hairdressers, cosmetic shops and tattoo parlours.

"I hope that Sports Minister Werner Kogler and Health Minister Rudolf Anschober will once again allow club sports under the guidance of state-certified coaches after our sports summit", said Sports Austria president Hans Niessl.

A relaxation of the ban on amateur sporting activities could come into effect in March.

Amateur and leisure sporting organisations have been locked down since late 2020.

There are an estimated 15,000 amateur sporting clubs across Austria.
