The Local reaches 40,000 paying members
The Local on Wednesday passed the milestone of 40,000 paying members. The pan-European news and information network has tripled its member (subscriber) count since the start of 2020.
“Our members are now by far our biggest source of revenue. As our member numbers have increased we have been able to invest more in journalism to keep making The Local more useful to our community,” says The Local’s co-founder and CEO, James Savage.
“With the pandemic making travel harder and leading to new limitations on daily life across Europe, there has never been a greater need for accurate, up-to-date news and information in English among our target group.”
The Local, headquartered in Stockholm, runs news and information sites targeted at international residents and global nomads in 9 European countries.
The Local’s largest market is France, followed by Sweden and Italy. Membership of The Local costs €49.99 per year or €4.99 per month at full price. The Local had 13,100 members at the start of 2020. Around 40% of members are on an annual subscription.
