Property prices continue to rise in Sweden as 2021 gets off to a hot start
Sweden's property market has shown no sign of slowing down in 2021, with prices rising especially in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Stockholm apartments (bostadsrätter) saw a price increase of 2.3 percent in the first half of January, compared to December, according to real estate analyst firm Valueguard's property index.
In Gothenburg, western Sweden, the corresponding increase was 0.6 percent.
Bostadsrätter are one of the main forms of home ownership in Sweden, where in practice almost any apartment will either be a hyresrätt (rented accommodation) or bostadsrätt (owned accommodation).

Nationally, the price of apartments fell 0.3 percent, but detached homes (villor) rose 1.7 percent.
The increase does follow a relatively slow December, which saw the price of detached homes rise 1.7 percent month-on-month in both Stockholm and Gothenburg – but that came amid a 1.0 percent decrease in the price of apartments in Stockholm.
In December, apartment prices in Malmö increased 0.2 percent but detached homes fell 0.8 percent. Valueguard did not have any information on Malmö housing prices in January.
