Higher-than-normal temperatures in southern and central Sweden contributed to a record-breaking month of November.

Several weather records were broken in the month of November. Regions in southern and central Sweden measured the hottest temperatures.

"What's unique is the amount of temperature records that were broken," Lisa Frost, meteorologist at Sweden's national weather agency SMHI, told the TT newswire.

It was mainly the early-November heatwave that contributed to the very high temperature average.

On November 2nd and 6th, new records for the month of November were set in several places – the highest temperature measured being 18.4C, in Gladhammar on November 6th. This weather record is similar to the Swedish heat record for November that was recorded in Ugerup in Skåne on November 2nd, 1968.

Among other records, the temperature in the southern university town of Lund was 17.1 C on November 2nd. It broke the old record of 16.1C from the same date in 1968. On the same day, Stockholm's old heat record of November 1st, 1902, and Uppsala's of November 12th, 1999, were also broken.

The largest temperature deviations from normal were found further north, but they were not enough to break the old records. Another contributing factor to the very high monthly average temperatures was that there was no proper cold snap in Sweden last month.
