No national census in Sweden after all

Bids for a national census won't go ahead in Sweden. Proposals from the right-wing parties the Moderates and the Sweden Democrats to carry out a new population count were nipped in the bud by a majority on the parliament's taxation committee, which said the Tax Agency (Skatteverket) had already been granted all the resources it needed to improve the population register.

Sweden opens doors to local coronavirus guidelines

Sweden is set to tighten its coronavirus recommendations next week, making it possible for regional authorities to introduce additional local guidelines if needed. This came as the total case count passed 100,000 in the country, and as elderly care homes again reported a rise in infections.

Revenue from foreign tourists fell 22.8 billion kronor, and revenue from Swedish tourists went down 10.1 billion kronor.

Sweden Democrat on trial over groping allegations

The trial of a Swedish member of the European Parliament, representing the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats, gets under way today. Peter Lundgren is accused of grabbing the breasts of a female party member, which he admitted last year but said he had apologised for. The woman did not report Lundgren herself and has refused to take part in the police investigation, writes Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
