After the positive case was detected on Monday, the creche in Fontainemelon was closed and around 50 children as well as a dozen adults were told to quarantine.

In total, three people are in solitary confinement and around 80 people are in quarantine.

Cantonal doctor Claude-François Robert said that the measure was necessary in order to deal with “sporadic outbreaks of the virus”.

The employee felt symptoms of the virus last week before receiving the positive diagnosis on Monday.

Similar measures have become more widespread in Switzerland in recent days, however this is the first such incident in a creche.

The majority have taken place after potential contaminations in nightclubs, primarily in Zurich and Solothurn.
