Brittany Ferries has announced it will resume its services from the UK to Spain and France at the end of June.

Starting on Monday June 29th, Brittany Ferries will restart its Spain operations as the Cap Finistère ship sets sail from Portsmouth to the Basque city of Bilbao.

Then on Tuesday June 30th, the Pont-Aven ferry will leave from Portsmouth to Santander .

“I am pleased to confirm our plans for a staggered resumption of passenger services, beginning as early as next Monday June 29th,” Brittany Ferries CEO Christophe Mathieu said in a statement.

“We can’t be 100 percent sure, but governments still seem to be converging on this timeframe in all our markets, allowing for a resumption of international travel and tourism and an end (we hope) to frustrating quarantine measures.”

According to Brittany Ferries' latest timetable, the first service in July from the UK to Spain will be on July 5th from Plymouth to Bilbao.

On July 1st, a service is scheduled from Rosslare in Ireland to Bilbao as well.

Passengers will also have to wear face masks in all public places and when boarding and disembarking, as part of a 12-point safety plan which includes things like capacity restrictions on board, staggered embarkation and disembarkation, intensified cleaning, social distancing, the requirement for a cabin and very limited reserved seats on some day sailings.

The Plymouth-based ferry firm stopped all but  freight operations and “lifeline” services for Brits stranded abroad in mid-March as the coronavirus pandemic led to international travel bans.

“Sadly, I have to repeat we will not be able to resume all services, and we won't be able to keep passenger capacities at pre-Covid 19 levels,” Mathieu concluded.

“As I have mentioned previously, this will be a staggered return to service.”
