Share your Sweden: Help others explore the country from home
No one knows when it will be safe to travel to, from and within Sweden, so share your tips for a virtual visit. Photo: Per Pixel Petersson/imagebank.sweden.se

Do you have a story to tell about your area of Sweden, or can you recommend a local book, recipe, or piece of music? We're asking our readers to share their Sweden, so that we can all 'travel the country' from our own homes.

It's easy to feel as if our world has got a little smaller over the past few months. Travel restrictions stop us from overseas trips and authorities have also warned against non-essential travel within Sweden. Celebrations like Walpurgis, Midsummer, and others won't be the same, and many of the events we have been looking forward to are cancelled, while many of us are directly affected by the coronavirus and its consequences.

But there are still things we can do, and we're asking for your help.

Our readers live all over Sweden, and no one knows the quirks and wonders of this country like the people who live here. So tell us – how can people experience your region from their own home?

Maybe there's a local band we can listen to, or a book that will transport us to your neighbourhood. Perhaps you can share a regional recipe or craft that anyone can try wherever they're located. Can you teach us a word or phrase in the local dialect, or give some insight into a local proverb?

Or have you got a tale of your region to share? Whether it's centuries-old folklore or the story of your first cross-country ski trip, a proposal at a scenic spot, a local festival, or the moment you first felt at home there, we're listening.

We will collect some of the responses and publish them in the form of virtual guides to Sweden's regions, here on The Local, supplemented with tips from our own team.
