The emergency ordinance will provide CHF13 million per month, with affected daycare centres needing to make an application to cantonal authorities in order to receive the funds.

The money will cover 80 percent of the damage suffered by the daycare centre.

Plunging enrolment numbers

There are an estimated 20,000 childcare places in Zurich canton in around 700 daycare centres.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, cantonal authorities estimate that they are operating at an average of 30 percent of capacity.
