The city of Paris has announced that all green spaces are now closed, ahead of a storm that is due to hit the capital on Thursday afternoon.

All parks, gardens, squares and cemeteries managed by the Paris Town Hall closed at 11am on Thursday due to fears over forecast strong winds.

 

A thunder storm is due to hit the greater Paris Île-de-France region between 1pm and 4pm on Thursday, also bringing rain and high winds.

Further north there are warnings of hailstorms in the Hauts-de-France region.

Five départements - Calvados, Manche, Pas-de-Calais, Seine-Maritime and Somme - are on orange alert for high winds and possible coastal flooding.

The alert runs until 6am on Friday.
