How to buy a €5 ticket on the new low-cost high speed Madrid-Barcelona train
Renfe are offering cut price tickets on their new budget service between Madrid and Barcelona which launches during Semana Santa (Easter week) on April 6th.
The state rail operator is offering tickets for just €5 on a first come first served basis with just 1,000 available each day from Monday for a total of ten days.
Here’s how to take advantage of the offer for the new Avlo rail service.

When?
Tickets go on sale at 1pm on Monday January 27 and will continue for ten days, with Renfe releasing the sales of tickets each day at a different hour. Forexample Tuesday will be at 8pm and Wednesday at 3pm

To find out the time of day, cut price tickets will go live, you need to check into the website each morning.
How?
Cut price tickets can only be bought on the dedicated Avlo Renfe website where you must register or use an exciting Renfe registration if you already have one.
Once the service is up and running you should be able to buy tickets in the ticket office at stations but the only way to secure a €5 is online and with payment by credit card.
When can I travel?
You can buy a ticket now for travel between April 6 when the service is scheduled to launch, any time up until August 31st which includes peak travel times during Easter week and the summer holidays.
The service will begin by offering three daily trains each way, one direct with a journey time of 2.5 hours and the other two of them stopping in Zaragoza.
The train will travel the 621km (386 miles) journey between Madrid and Barcelona reaching speeds of 310 km/h.
What if I can’t get a discount ticket?
With only 1,000 on offer, you may not be luckily enough to secure the cheap deal - the tickets were snapped up within 10 mintues on the first few days of the offer - but you can still find tickets for the new service priced between €10 and €60, a huge discount on the current AVE service between the two cities which costs an average of €90 one-way.
