The number of jobs available is at a record high across France and is still growing fast, but it is in the Paris and the Lyon regions that by far the most are available - half of the total number.

Between July and September, 241,500 job offers were posted online, with three quarters of them the sought-after “CDI” or permanent type contract, according to the recruitment website RegionsJob.

That is a rise of 19 percent on the same period a year earlier.

The best area to look for work in is unsurprisingly Paris, by far the country’s biggest city and with a dynamic economy to match.

The number of jobs on offer there this autumn is a whopping 39 percent higher than the same period last year, according to the figures from RegionsJob reported in Le Parisien.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is also proving very dynamic, with a rise of 31 percent, while Normandy comes in third with a robust 21 percent rise.

Occitanie saw a 20 percent rise, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté went up by 19 percent, Centre Val de Loire by 18 percent, and Hauts-de-France and Brittany both showed a 17 percent rise.

Pays de la Loire and Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes both had an 11 percent rise.

Despite the growing number of jobs on offer, unemployment in France is still stubbornly high at 8.5 percent and economic growth is at a less than impressive 1.3 percent.

Many jobs remain unfilled, particularly in the sectors of construction, retail, IT, and industry.
