Is this the most romantic time of the day?

The word of the day today is used to talk about sunset and dusk.

  • Intenta terminar con el taladro antes de que anochezca.

Try to finish drilling before it gets dark.

It can also mean nightfall or dusk

  • Hicimos una hoguera al anochecer.

We made a bonfire at nightfall.

Here we have a poem from Mexican poet Octavio Paz, all about the sunset.

Un Anochecer

¿Qué la sostiene, entreabierta

claridad anochecida,

luz por los jardines suelta?

Todas las ramas, vencidas

por un agobio de pájaros,

hacia lo obscuro se inclinan.

Sobre las bardas –intactos:

todavía resplandores–

instantes ensimismados.

Para recibir la noche

se cambian las arboledas

en callados surtidores.

Cae un pájaro, la yerba

ensombrece, los confines

se borran, la cal es negra,

el mundo es menos creíble.

Pronunciation:

A-no-che-cer
