More high temperatures on the way to Sweden
The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a hot weather warning as high temperatures continue to grip the country.
The long-lasting warm weather was described as “unusual” by SMHI meteorologist Linus Dock.
Some rainy spells will accompany the heat, however, with wet weather most likely in eastern Götaland down to Blekinge and parts of Svealand and Norrland.
That aside, the country will see hot, sunny weather with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in a number of areas including Stockholm, Gävle and Umeå.
“It will be cooler in the north but between 15 and 20 degrees in northern Lapland,” Dock said.
SMHI’s class 1 hot weather warning applies to the counties of Örebro, Västmanland, Södermanland, Uppsala and Stockholm. That means that temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees or more between today and Tuesday.
“After Tuesday it will still be warm, with more than 26 degrees,” Dock said.
A high pressure front will move over Sweden during the course of Sunday.
“That means less rainy weather and continued high temperatures in parts of Götaland and Svealand,” Dock said.
Forecasts for the second half of next week are more uncertain.
“Rain will move in from the southeast, from Poland, and may reach Skåne and southern Götaland. But it is not clear how it will develop and whether it will actually reach Sweden. It is very possible that the high pressure will stay in place,” Dock said.
