After a cool and rainy Midsummer weekend in many parts of Sweden, more summery weather is set to return for the final days of June.

The last week of the month should be marked with sunshine and temperatures above the seasonal average across the southern parts of the country, while further north the weather will be more changeable.

"Today, temperatures are at 20 to 23C in the south, and it's expected to get successively warmer after that," SMHI meteorologist Sofia Söderberg told the TT newswire.

"Along the coast of Norrland, it will be up to 20C and there's a chance that it will get even warmer. But there's also a risk of cooler air coming in," she said.

Following a record-breaking heatwave in May and a warm start to June, the early summer weather paused in the middle of the month, with temperatures returning to the average for the season and cloud and rain showers across large parts of Sweden.

This culminated in a disappointing Midsummer for many, with more cloud and rain on the bank holiday.

But looking ahead to the rest of the season, the forecast is more positive, with meteorologists predicting a warm and dry summer for most of the country.
