Passengers travelling from Stockholm's biggest station face major disruption from today as trains heading south through the capital skip stopping at Stockholm Central Station to allow track renovation work to be carried out.

The two tracks between Stockholm Central Station and Stockholm Södra will be repaired over eight weeks until August 19th.

It's estimated that 450,000 passengers will be impacted by the works. Passengers heading south who would normally change to long-distance trains at Stockholm Central will now have to get off at the station then catch the commuter rail line from nearby Stockholm Central to Stockholm Södra, where they can change and continue their journey.

Journey times will be extended by 30-40 minutes as a result. The same process will occur next summer, as well as the summer of 2020 until the track work is finished completely by 2021.
