Sweden has been ranked second place in the EU in an international climate survey.

However, no country was awarded the top spot, since the Climate Action Network (CAN) which created the report said no EU country was doing enough to protect the environment.

CAN, an umbrella organization for 150 environmental groups, looked at each country's efforts to reduce emissions, invest in renewable energy, and work towards the EU's climate goals.

"We are of course happy and proud that we are first in the EU with the most ambitious climate policy," said Deputy Prime Minister and Green Party spokesperson Isabella Lövin.

She also criticized the attitude of some other EU countries towards climate issues.

"I'd say it's going altogether too slowly; we need to up the pace in climate work. To have any chance of achieving the goal of the Paris agreement to limit global warming to 1.5C, we need to have much more serious work both in the EU and the rest of the world," she commented.
