A man locked out of his house called on three younger fellows to help him back inside. They proved willing, but after he offered them beer as a thank you, they gave him a much less welcome gift in return.

A bizarre press release from police in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria reported that a 40-year-old man in Regensburg found himself locked out of his apartment last Tuesday evening, and ultimately became the victim of a very unfortunate robbery.

The man had forgotten his keys inside the apartment, and so enlisted the help of three young men who happened to be walking past at the time.

The three men, aged roughly between 17 and 20, said they could be of assistance, and helped him force open the patio door so that he could get back into the apartment.

By way of thanks, the man invited the three men inside the flat for a beer, which the trio agreed to. After going to the loo, the man came back to drink his beer, and only remembers waking up a few hours later, having blacked out.

He then discovered about €400 worth of electronic devices were missing from his flat, and that the three "helpful gentlemen" had disappeared, police wrote. He went to the police on Friday to report the theft.

The men were described as being between 17 and 20 years of age, and having spoken German without an accent. Police are appealing to the public for help in finding the thieves.
