The days are sunny and the nights are cold across Germany, but weather forecasters predict higher temperatures as the week goes on.

German weather service DWD said on Monday that the sunny, dry days and cold nights will continue on Tuesday with temperatures between 0C and -6C in the early morning, and climbing up to between 1C and 6C during the day.

But starting on Wednesday, temperatures will start to warm up to 10C in certain areas, continuing into Thursday when even more northern cities like Hamburg, Berlin and Rostock are expected to see highs of 9C.

But more northern and coastal areas are also predicted to have clouds as well as off and on rain, starting on Wednesday night and going into Thursday. The DWD recommended in these areas for residents to bring along umbrellas rather than gloves to Christmas markets.

The weekend is supposed to have mild temperatures, though it will be windy and in some parts rainy - only people in the very south should not have their wintry outings ruined by wet weather.
