A new survey of what Germans would pay for "priceless" experiences reveals an interesting glimpse into what they value most.

Germans would pay €87,194 to receive a compliment from a stranger, according to a survey by online shopping deals website Shoop.de, first released to media on Thursday. That’s more than the starting price for the new BMW 5 series, starting at around €50,000, or for Porsche’s new 2017 718 Cayman S - around €64,000, and which The New York Times has proclaimed a “driver’s dream”.

The shopping site along with market research group Promio.net asked 1,090 Germans this month about what they would be willing to pay for fulfilling priceless dreams, like “having the perfect kiss” or “having a white Christmas”.

The concept with the highest asking price was the “health of yourself and your family”, for which Germans on average said they’d pay close to half a million, €462,403.

The survey also revealed that Germans would pay more to have a partner who is faithful than they would to find their one true love. Having a faithful partner - the second highest-valued item - was worth more than a quarter of a million euros, while “finding that one great love” was worth €187,808.

Third highest on Germans’ list of wishes was “spending time with a dead loved one again”, appraised at €251,869. The fourth highest at €248,315 was “having a happy marriage”.

The fifth highest on the list was “having a life without stress or anger”, valued at €227,678.

The survey also showed some differences  between what men and women value: men were willing to pay nearly €40,000 more than women to have an attractive spouse - more than €190,000 compared to more than €150,000, respectively.

And women placed a bit more value on compliments from strangers than men: about €93,000 compared to about €80,000 respectively.

Germans overall were also willing to dole out nearly €167,000 for having “naturally pretty and healthy teeth” - much more than it would likely cost to actually stop by the dentist.

The “dream” that Germans would pay the least to fulfill was that of getting cosy with their Chancellor, Angela Merkel. Respondents said they would pay on average €28,324 to have a “date” of going out to eat with Merkel.
