Lennart Ribring, from Stockholm, bought his first Ford Mustang in the 1960s. Some fifty years later, the 97-year-old driver just became the world's oldest owner of the iconic car.

To put this into perspective: when Ribring was born in 1919, the Ford Model T, widely regarded as the first car available to the general public, had rolled off the assembly line only 11 years earlier.

A video of Ribring behind the wheel of his newest purchase, a Ford Mustang GT Fastback, has gone viral in Sweden and abroad after the dealer, Upplands Motor in Stockholm, alerted the company headquarters in Germany, who immediately sent a camera crew to Sweden to document the historic event.

"In the old Mustang you had an almost horizontal driving position. Here you sit more upright and it's a little bit different when you look ahead. The first feeling was that you could drive fast – you felt a bit more like the king of the road," says Ribring in the three-minute YouTube clip.

"I bought my first Ford Mustang when I was 35-40 years, and since then I have never thought of another car."

According to Ford, the Swede is probably the oldest Mustang buyer in recent years, and definitely in 2016 – and Ribring is quickly becoming something of an international celebrity in the process.

"Driving a manual transmission too!" comments viewer Miles Murphy on YouTube. "Inspiration for many to get out, go further and enjoy life, the road, family and friends!"

"So cool! I am less than half his age, and have a 2016 GT automatic! Hope he lives over 100!" writes Daniel Perez and another adds: "Way to go man! Love you, hope I can do the same when I hit your age!"
