The 2017 New York Michelin Guide was not due to be published until Thursday, but website Eater obtained an early copy and broke the news.

They explain that Aska has been named New York’s best new restaurant in the guide, awarding it two stars only a few months after it re-opened last July.

“To put this all in perspective: Aska now has as many Michelin stars as Noma”, Eater writes.

Chef Berselius posted an Instagram update confirming the news on Tuesday night.

So honored, happy and proud of the team! @askanyc #michelinguide #michelin2017 #twostars

He has previously worked at acclaimed New York Scandinavian restaurant Aquavit, which was founded by fellow Swede Marcus Samuelsson. And now it looks like the apprentice is rivalling the master.

“We want to prepare the best food we can, and we use the best ingredients we can. We work hard every day to deliver our product. But you never know… the guide work in their own way," Berselius commented to Swedish newspaper Expressen.

"No one knows exactly what they are looking for when they award stars. So we can just do the best we can. We’re extremely happy."

In its description of the new two star restaurants, the guide describes Aska and company as  “excellent cuisine, worth a detour”, adding that they have “skillfully and carefully crafted dishes of outstanding quality”.
