Norway’s PM cites ‘moral obligation’ to fight Isis

The international community must use all means necessary to stop the the Islamic State terror group, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg said on Tuesday.
“The fight against IS is part of a global struggle against violent extremism, which we have an obligation and a moral responsibility to contribute to,” the PM told parliament.
Solberg pointed out that the United Nations has determined that the international community must use all necessary means to stop the Islamic State.
“Norway has followed that recommendation,” she said.
The PM said that Norway is taking the lead when it comes to humanitarian efforts. She said the Nordic nation will provide a total of over 300 million kroner ($36m, €33m) to humanitarian efforts in Iraq by the end of this year and a contribution of ten billion kroner ($1.2b, €1.1b) over the next four years.
She also said that Norway is “the fifth largest humanitarian donor country to Syria”.
Militarily, Norway contributes primarily through the international coalition against Isis. Solberg said Norway works with halting funding to the group, slowing the supply of foreign fighters and refutation of Isis propaganda.
