While much of the Halloween antics reported across Norway on Monday night were of the minor variety, there was a much more sinister incident in village of Svorkmo outside of Trondheim.

A woman in her 40s was attacked by a 16-year-old with an axe and knife just after 10pm on Monday night. The teenage boy was wearing a Halloween mask at the time, police said.

“A teen rang the doorbell and attacked when the woman opened,” Ann Kristin Øie of the Sør-Trøndelag Police said.

The woman was injured in the arms, chest and head and was transported to hospital Orkdal. Her injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

The teenager was arrested near the victim’s house when police arrived.

Øie said that the 16-year-old had “a mask that can be related to Halloween”. She did not specify if it was a clown mask or if the incident is thought to be connected to the ‘creepy clown craze’ that has become something of a global phenomenon.

Due to the perpetrator’s age, child welfare services were notified of the incident. The boy was expected to be formally questioned and charged on Tuesday.
