Switzerland is beautiful in all seasons, but as these photos show, autumn is a special time in the alpine country.

Low light, changing colours, rich blue skies... Switzerland during the fall is a photographer’s dream. Here, we pick our favourite autumn pictures posted on Instagram.

Deborence, Valais. This tranquil spot comes into its own in autumn when the leaves change colour.

Aletsch Arena, Valais. The incredible Aletsch glacier – the longest in Europe – is highlighted by fall colours and makes for a stunning place for autumn hiking.

The Matterhorn, Valais. Low sun hits the famous Swiss peak in this beautiful shot.

St Cergue, Vaud. The forests of the Jura mountains are a kaleidoscope of colour in autumn.

Swiss National Park, Graubünden. Autumn is a great time to wander in this protected wilderness in eastern Switzerland, the country's only national park.

Lauterbrunnen, Bern. This valley is another fantastic autumn hiking spot.

Lavertezzo, Ticino. This village near Locarno is at its photogenic best in this beautiful shot.

Mürren, Bern. This picture postcard shot from this car-free village in the Bernese Oberland sums up the Swiss landscape in autumn.

Préverenges beach. Beautiful spot for an autumn paddle on Lake Geneva at one of its most scenic beaches.
