The vast majority of Sweden’s Riksdag members of parliament are hoping to see Hillary Clinton win the forthcoming US presidential election, according to a survey of MPs.

Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN) asked all 349 MPs who they hoped would be the next US President, and 83 percent of those who responded backed Clinton.

Only two percent said they were backing Donald Trump.

DN’s e-mail survey received a response from 234 of the MPs, of which 195 said they want Clinton to win. Five said they wanted to see Trump become president, while 27 were not keen on either of the two main candidates.

One of the MPs backing Clinton to take top spot in the White House is Centre Party leader Annie Lööf.

“She has the experience and the political compass necessary to navigate today’s troubled world,” Lööf told DN.

Several MPs said they were backing the former Secretary of State because they believed Trump would be an even worse choice.

“What will happen to the world if Trump wins?” Left Party MP Wiwi-Anne Johansson said.

Five Sweden Democrats MPs said they were hoping for a Trump victory however.

“As a candidate Trump has spoken about a number of questions that political correctness has kept a lid on, for example the problems that come with illegal immigration,” Sweden Democrat MP Mattias Johansson Bäckström noted.

DN carried out a similar study last March, polling 100 Swedish MPs before the process of selecting presidential nominees was over.

It found that nearly half (47 percent) hoped Clinton would win the presidential election.
