Pascal Jaussi, the founder and CEO of Swiss Space Systems (S3), who was badly injured after being attacked ten days ago, has vowed to continue his work.

Speaking to newspaper Le Tribune de Genève from his hospital bed, Jaussi said “It’s hard. I’m in pain. But I will keep fighting”.

The public prosecutor in Fribourg has opened an investigation after Jaussi was beaten, doused in petrol and set on fire in his car after being forced into woods on August 26th.

“I am recovering slowly. I don’t know how long I will have to stay here or if I will have to undergo grafts,” he said, telling the paper he is unable to comment on what happened to him due to the ongoing investigation.

Jaussi said he had received many messages of support and wanted to thank those who were thinking of him.

“I also want to reassure them: I will be back and I will return to business.”

Investigators will have to consider if the vicious attack had any link to Jaussi’s company, a 2013 start-up which aims to ‘democratize’ space by developing low-cost, reusable shuttles to launch small satellites.

Jaussi had previously received threats related to his work, and the firm’s base in Payerne was broken into last year.

Speaking to the paper, one unnamed investor said 40-year-old Jaussi was a “genius” and “visionary”.

“But it’s a world where the financial and legal stakes are huge. It involves tens of millions of dollars. You’re dealing with many countries and societies with government links,” he said, adding that the pressure of this “highly strategic” industry is enormous.
