Rain and records continue to fall in Bergen

It has never rained more in Bergen. On Tuesday, the drenched city set its third rain-related record of the summer.
Over 353 millimetres of rainfall has been recorded at the Florida measuring station in Bergen. With that, this month has already surpassed August 1989 as the wettest August on record. And the month’s not over yet. Bergen is still getting rain and could very well also set the record for the wettest summer.
“The record for the whole summer is 704 millimetres, also from 1989. It’s still raining and we have a full day left in August so we think it’s likely that this summer will be the wettest we’ve ever had,” meteorologist Roar Inge Hansen told TV2.
Throughout August, Bergen residents have had only four dry days.
Bergen has already picked up three rain records this year. July was the wettest month ever at the Florida measurement station and the 76.2 millimetres that fell on Bergen between August 8th and 9th set a new 24-hour record.
Although it is probably of little comfort to drenched Bergen residents, the record for August rainfall was even higher before the Florida observation site became the city’s official measuring station. In 1929, a full 415 millimetres fell at the Frederiksberg station in Bergen’s Nordnes peninsula.
The Florida measuring station has been the source of Bergen’s official weather statistics since 1983.
