Being able to make good pizza is an art, but could you pull off a pizza fit for a king?

That’s exactly what Sangar Gafuri was tasked with on Tuesday.

The owner of the Lessebo Pizzeria & Gatukök in southern Sweden was busy going about his work yesterday when he turned around and realized he had two visitors of the highest importance: King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

“Someone came in the door but I had other guests, so I was busy taking orders. Then I looked around after half a minute and I realized I had the King and Queen Silvia there at the cash register!” he told The Local.

Gafuri duly took the royal order (two capricciosa pizzas and a salad for their guard, in case you were wondering) but after doing so there was little time to stop and think about what was happening.

“I started to make the food and I wanted to go and speak to them, but I had no time. I was working on my own as my wife wasn’t there that day,” he explained. “I also didn’t want to disturb them.”

An isolated rural town of just over 2700 people, Lessebo isn't exactly a hot-spot for royal sightings, and the pizzeria owner admitted that he was pretty nervous while making the food.

But the pay-off couldn’t have been any better: a glowing royal review.

“They said several times that the pizza was tasty and they were very content. I was really happy. They were very nice.”

“I’m always happy if I’ve done something well, regardless of who it is for. But with the King you of course have to have a bit of extra respect – it’s a little bit special.”

Though there wasn't much time to chat, Gafuri did pluck up the courage to ask for a photo just before the royal couple left, to which they happily obliged. After sharing it on the pizzeria’s Facebook page the phone has barely stopped ringing.

There’s no publicity quite like royal publicity it seems. In order to return the favour, the pizza baker is now planning a special tribute.

“I’ve thought about naming a pizza after the King,” he said.

“I’ll have to think about what people like and decide what to put on it.”
