Book a sunbed

Every holidaymaker’s nightmare – arriving at the pool to see that every single sunbed has been informally “reserved” by people who have flung their towels over them (we’re looking at you, Germans…) – could soon be over. BookMySunbed app allows tourists to book their bed ahead of time, eliminating the headache of having to rush down early to the poolside. The app is currently available for hotels across Marbella, but there are plans to soon roll it out across Spain.

Jellyfish numbers have been steadily rising on Spanish beaches over the past few years and the last thing you want is for your holiday to be ruined by a nasty sting. Enter Infomedusa, an app that provides jellyfish forecasts for 107 beaches along the Costa del Sol. The app is currently only available in Spanish but is quite straightforward to use.

Find free Wifi

WifiMapper has plotted over 500 million Wifi hotspots worldwide, so wherever you are in Spain, with the tap of the screen you can find out where you can obtain free internet access. Available on iOS and Android.

Swot up on your Spanish

Duolingo makes learning fun, turning the drudgery of learning a new language into a game. Earn points, race against the clock and scale the levels as your Spanish improves. And you’ll appreciate your newfound knowledge when you are able to order fluently and show off your language skills.

Translate Spanish to English

For those who have neither the time nor the inclination to learn Spanish, a translation app will come in very handy.

Spanish Dict allows you to easily translate English words into Spanish and vice versa, an indispensable tool when travelling around Spain. Available on iOS and Android.

Get anything you want delivered in minutes

Forgotten your swimsuit? In need of some high-factor sun scream, or a replacement for that just-finished holiday read? Spanish app Glovo can help you with that. The app, which was launched in January 2015, promises to fetch whatever you want within your city and deliver it to you within the hour. And best of all? The app charges a flat fee of €5.50. What a bargain!
