Several hundred people gathered at Copenhagen's central Rådhuspladsen on Thursday to show solidarity with black victims of police shootings in the United States.

The movement against police violence has now spread to Denmark in the form of a demonstration 'in solidarity' with black deaths at the hands of police, the two most recent coming last week in Minnesota and Louisiana.

On July 8th, gunman Micah Xavier Johnson killed five police offers at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas.

Following last week's violence, President Barack Obama called for police and black communities to take steps towards reconciliation.

The Copenhagen demonstration proceeded peacefully and featured music and speeches including from prominent journalist and political commentator David Trads.

"We we say Black Lives Matter, we are talking about life all over the world," organiser Sade Johnson said at the event.

"We have arranged this demonstration to show our solidarity with the victims who have lost their lives in the USA," Johnson told DR.

"Racism is also a problem in Denmark. Violence against minorities is also a problem in Denmark and it's important that we talk about it," student Celeste Nshimiyimana said to the broadcaster.

A number of other cities in Europe, including London, Amsterdam and Berlin, have witnessed similar demonstrations.
