A police officer in northern Sweden was left feeling flushed after his girlfriend broke up with him by text message. So much so that he forgot he was carrying a service weapon.

The police officer left his weapon on the floor of a toilet at a police station in the Jämtland region on February 26th this year.

It was found by a colleague who alerted their superior officer and a report was filed into professional misconduct.

The officer in question said that just before the toilet visit his girlfriend had sent him a text message breaking up with him, reports broadcaster SVT.

“I was shocked and had my thoughts elsewhere,” he said according to the report.

He has now been given an official warning.

“The fact that shortly before the incident he had received a text message with, to him, unfortunate content, does not absolve him of responsibility,” said the regional police authority in its ruling.

Lessons learned? Don't leave your gun in the toilet. And don't break up with people by text message. That's just cruel.
