Radar problems on Monday afternoon shut down part of Norway’s airspace.

Technical problems at both Stavanger Airport and Oslo’s Gardermoen resulted in no planes being able to take off for roughly an hour on Monday, according to Aftenposten.

This marked the second time in less than a month that technical problems have closed off parts of Norway’s airspace.

Radar problems in June grounded flights at Bergen Airport Flesland, Stavanger Airport and airports in Haugesund, Førde, Florø, Sandane, Sogndal and Stord.

Monday’s problem was reported shortly after 2pm and Avinor,  the company that runs Norway's 46 state-owned airports, said just after 3pm that the airspace had been opened up again.

The radar issues were expected to cause delays throughout the afternoon.

“We had a similar problem in June. Luckily, we have back-up systems that allow planes to land but for now no flights can take off,” Ulverud said shortly before the problem was resolved.

She said that Avinor is currently investigating whether it is the same error that struck in June.
