Mrs Obama and daughters to visit Spain at end of June
The First Lady of the United States will meet with Spain's Queen Letizia.
Michelle Obama will visit Spain at the end of June, when she will meet with Queen Letizia and give a speech in favour of her campaign for girls’ education, Let Girls Learn, her office announced on Wednesday.
Obama will also travel to Liberia and Morocco and will be accompanied by her daughters, Malia and Sasha and her mother, Marian Robinson.
The trip will take place from June 27th to July 1st.
Soon after Barack Obama will make his first official visit to Spain as President - on July 9th - when he will visit Madrid and Seville and meet with King Felipe and acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
The first stop on the First Lady’s trip will be Liberia, where she will visit a branch of the United States Peace Corps as well as a local school, where she will be accompanied by the actress Freida Pinto.
In her next stop, Morocco, Obama will be accompanied by the legendary actress Meryl Streep.
The First Lady will arrive in Madrid on June 30th, where she will give a speech on her Let Girls Learn initiative, which aims to give 62 million girls around the world who don’t currently go to school, access to education.
Michelle Obama made an unofficial visit to Spain in 2010 with her youngest daughter, Sasha. They were received by the then King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia and Princess Letizia in Mallorca.
Spain is obviously a popular destination with the Obamas; Malia Obama is reportedly going to spend the summer undertaking an internship at the US Embassy in Madrid.
