A car that is believed to have belonged to a man named on the UK’s terror watch list was found abandoned at Rome’s Fiumicino airport.

The British-number plated yellow Seat Alhambra had been in the airport’s long-stay carpark for over a year before suspicions were aroused.

Police found nothing suspicious inside the vehicle, but after some investigation discovered it was registered in the name of a 37-year-old Briton, originally from Sri Lanka, who is on Britain's terror watch list.

He is thought to have travelled to Syria from Rome's Fiumicino with his family in May 2015, with his name added to the list some months after, La Repubblica reported, citing intelligence sources.
