Teacher takes pupil to court for calling him 'retarded'
A teacher in Düsseldorf has taken a student at a special-needs school to court over a Facebook post which he said made him look ridiculous.
The 64-year-old took his student to court after the pupil secretly photographed him in class and then published the picture on Facebook with the tag “most retarded teacher ever.”
The court, which has not opened the case to the public due to the defendant’s age, said it had never before dealt with a case of this kind.
Most cases of this nature are handled via internal disciplinary measures in schools, the court spokesperson said.
The teacher was himself not a friend of the student on Facebook, but heard about the post through a third person.
The teenager will also likely face a charge of interference in an individual’s privacy after she took photos of him without asking his permission first.
