Kygo sets all-time Norway record on US Billboard chart
Bergen native Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, better known as Kygo, is now the highest-ever placing Norwegian act on the Billboard 200 list.
The 24-year-old DJ and producer’s debut album ‘Cloud Nine’ will come in at 11th place in the next edition of the prestigious list, Billboard told VG.
That position is enough to top all other Norwegian acts to have made it to the US albums chart, including a-ha and Röyksopp.
A-ha’s 1985 album ‘Hunting High & Low’ made it no higher than 15th place on the Billboard 200, while the Tromsø duo Röyskopp peaked at number 14 with their EP ‘Do It Again’, a 2014 collaboration with Swedish singer-songwriter Robyn.
While the young superstar has claimed his country’s record for the highest-placing album on the Billboard list, he is thus far no threat to a-ha’s Norwegian supremacy on the singles chart.
The Oslo band hit number one with their 1985 song ‘Take On Me’ while Kygo’s ‘Firestone’ has placed no higher than 92nd.
