Tourists leave hospital after Interlaken crash injures 17

Police have launched “extensive investigations” after a train crashed into a tourist bus on Friday night in Interlaken, in the canton of Bern, injuring 17.

According to a police statement, none has life-threatening injuries and most have already been released from hospital.

The crash happened at around 8pm on Friday night when an intercity train from Germany collided with a tour bus at the level crossing over the Beau-Rivage bridge.

Some 17 people, all Asian tourists travelling in the tour bus, were taken to hospital. None of the train passengers was injured.

Emergency services including 11 ambulances, the fire service and rescue workers attended the scene.

Police also ordered a cleaning operation after diesel from the accident spread into the river Aare.

In a statement,  police said “according to current knowledge there is no danger to the environment”.

Train services along the line were initially disrupted but services returned to normal on Saturday.
