Six people were injured in the brawl - involving some 40 people - which started at Liv nightclub in Bassano del Grappa in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Vicenza police officer said the fight involved “American military men and a group of men from Africa”. The soldiers, who are stationed at Caserma Ederle in Vicenza, are due to appear in court on Thursday.

It is unclear exactly how the brawl started, but according to local newspaper reports, there was a “quarrel” inside the club, during which one of the soldiers was allegedly “stabbed in the back” by a man from Ghana.

The fight then continued outside as a "manhunt" ensued for the man from Ghana, triggering a "mass brawl", the local press reported.

Four Americans and two Africans were hospitalized.
