The Ministry of Immigration, Integration and Housing said on Thursday evening that IT problems have completely shut down its visa application process and that no fix is in sight.

“Due to a malfunction in the electronic visa system VIS, it is currently not possible to process visa applications or to issue visas at the Danish missions abroad or at the Danish Immigration Service,” a ministry statement read.

“Furthermore, it is not possible to perform digital control of visa holders at Denmark's external Schengen borders,” it added.

The problems are also affecting the digital forms found on the Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen - DIS) website, nyidanmark.dk or the English-language version newtodenmark.dk

Two visa forms, the VU1 application for a business visa and the VU2 application for a visa for a private visa, can be found in paper form on the DIS website, but the statement said that any paper applications would not be processed until after the IT problems are resolved.

Just when that will be could be anyone’s guess.

“It is currently not possible to say anything about when the IT problems have been solved. The relevant authorities are in close contact and have already implemented a series of temporary solutions to deal with the situation,” the statement said.

The ministry said that updates to the IT problems would be provided on newtodenmark.dk, so all those affected are advised to keep a close eye on the website.
