Austrian tourist found dead on Thai beach
A male Austrian tourist (40) was found lying dead on a deck chair at a popular Thai beach on Saturday morning.
According to the Khaosod English newspaper, the man's body was found by a staff member of the Sala Samui Hotel around 7 a.m., said Bo Phut Police Station chief Thewes Pluemsut.
According to reports, the man had already been camping on the beach for the past several nights.
Col. Thewes told the newspaper that there were no indications of foul play.
"His body had no wounds. He was just lying there. We believe he might have had a pre-existing medical condition", he said.
"There was no sign of a struggle. We believe he died in his sleep."
Police are waiting for a detailed autopsy before they can confirm a cause of death.
Efforts are currently underway to notify the man's family, therefore his name has not been provided. Initial reports thought the man was Australian, but medications found with the man's effects confirm he is Austrian.
This is the second Austrian tourist found dead in the past week, with the recent death of a female in Antigua.
