An Austrian businessman has helped to start an innovative company that could change the way hotels will run their business in years to come.

Together with revenue management specialist and Scottish expat David Turnbull, SnapShot was founded by Austrian hotelier Michael Heinze as a data and analytics company that has designed software specifically to help hoteliers manage demand and revenue, as well as marketing and operational strategies using a single cloud-based platform.

They say they are the first hotel industry company to focus on data aggregation to help businesses make profit-focused decisions.

The company is now touring its product across Europe and was in Vienna on Wednesday at the Hotel Melia presenting its flagship product SnapShot Analytics, a free cloud-based data aggregator and analytics tool.

The entrepreneurs behind this software believe that they are breaking new ground by not only building a platform that removes the need for multiple Excel spreadsheets, but also cutting the time hotels spend trying to make decisions about how to make money.

“As you can imagine the complexity and awkwardness of these Excel-based analytics created a huge point of pain for hotels,” Austrian co-founder Heinze said in an interview with Tnooz.

“So it was that the need for a highly variable and vastly simplified solution became evident."

Designed for both small and large establishments, the software helps hotels understand the interdependent roles of revenue management, sales and finance for making profit-driven decisions.

Leading the roadshow is another Austrian, Dr Stefan Tweraser, CEO of SnapShot and formerly head of Google in Austria and Switzerland.

In an exclusive interview, Tweraser told The Local that "Long term, what we really want to do with Snapshot is to make hospitality better."

"It sounds corny, but when you look at the time and effort hoteliers have to invest to really understand their data, and then make good decisions which are better for guests, then having a tool like SnapShot Analytics really will improve the guest experience."

Tweraser is also passionate about cloud-based computing.  He recommends that entrepreneurs with a new business idea should not hesitate to make use of the latest technology, such as cloud-based platforms, to rapidly build and deploy scalable solutions.
