Star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has cheered the news that Sweden's national football team is getting Janne Andersson as its new coach.

Janne Andersson, who currently coaches Norrköping, south of Stockholm, will succeed Erik Hamren as coach of the Swedish national team after Euro 2016, the country's football federation has announced.

The 53-year-old made his name with Norrköping when he guided them to the 2015 Swedish title, the team's first such success in a quarter of a century.

"It's great news," said Andersson.

Meanwhile the appointment was swiftly given the seal of approval from Sweden's most successful striker in history, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"I think it is a good choice. I do not know him so well (...) but there has been some talk about that name and a few others," he told reporters on Wednesday evening.

Hamren, in charge of Sweden since November 2009, had announced in February his intention to step down after Euro 2016 in France this summer.

Ibrahimovic, 34, would not be drawn on how long he was hoping to play for the national side under Andersson, while being quizzed by global media.

"The future is here and now," he said.

Hamren's legacy will likely be measured in terms of how well Sweden perform in the Euros. But they are expected to face a tough challenge, after being drawn in a group comprising of Italy, Belgium and the Republic of Ireland.

Their first game will be against Ireland on June 13th in Saint-Denis, then Italy in Toulouse on June 17th and finally Belgium in Nice on June 22nd. The top two teams from each group qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition.
